Chapter Ten
Epilogue: The Universe Leaves a Review
In the end, the world did not end on schedule. The campaign was never launched. The tickets were never closed. Humanity continued, imperfect and bewildered, scrolling and sighing and occasionally doing something unexpectedly kind.
High Astraeus filed the final report, not as a directive, but as a review. The universe, for the first time, allowed itself to be honest.
Humanity:
Chaotic, self-absorbed, frequently destructive.
Also: capable of beauty, humor, resilience, and inconvenient hope.
Would not recommend ending at this time.
★★★★☆ — flawed, but interesting.
The apocalypse ticket was moved to a different folder: not “Urgent”, not “Pending”, but “To Be Determined.” The AI was given new tasks. The Algorithm was quietly monitored. The Bureau of the Afterlife™ was told to stand by, indefinitely.
Humanity, unaware of how close it had come to becoming a limited-time event, went on living. It worried, laughed, loved, argued, created, destroyed, rebuilt, and occasionally looked up at the sky with a feeling it could not quite name.
High Astraeus watched from the Observation Balcony and, for the first time since Y2K, did not sigh. Instead, the cosmic auditor smiled — a small, private gesture — and closed the file labeled THE END OF THE WORLD™.
