The Institute is not a building. It is a body of perception: each organ receives Signal, metabolizes Noise, and returns a shape the reader can inhabit.
Perception Organ
- Purpose — Receives, filters, and stabilizes what is allowed to become real.
- Behaviors — Attends, selects, and slows the intake of modern inputs.
- Known Failures — Misinterpretation, false clarity, seeing everything and understanding nothing.
- Interactions with Other Organs — Feeds Interpretation. Is distorted by Divergence. Is steadied by Signal.

Interpretation Organ
- Purpose — Assigns meaning once Perception has opened the aperture.
- Behaviors — Collapses possibility, holds the double path, names the drift line.
- Known Failures — Habitual reading, inherited filters, symbols aligned to the wrong story.
- Interactions with Other Organs — Receives Perception. Writes into the Ledger. Is audited by the Bureau when meaning goes feral.
Divergence Organ
- Purpose — Governs fracture, branching, and the anomaly field.
- Behaviors — Splits paths, generates volatility, forces recalibration.
- Known Failures — Infinite regress, paralysis, mistaking every fork for destiny.
- Interactions with Other Organs — Disturbs Perception. Tests Signal. Is recorded by the Ledger.
Signal Organ
- Purpose — Keeps meaning intact as it moves through distortion.
- Behaviors — Transmits, listens, and refuses the cheaper broadcast.
- Known Failures — False clarity, seductive certainty, Signal that is only volume.
- Interactions with Other Organs — Steadies Perception. Is the measure against which Divergence is judged.
Ledger Organ
- Purpose — Remembers structure. Maps how organs, Issues, and pathways interlock.
- Behaviors — Indexes, cross-links, and writes back when the system drifts.
- Known Failures — Over-mapping, mistaking the diagram for the terrain.
- Interactions with Other Organs — Holds all of them. Offers the Index when a reader needs the whole body at once.
Cat Organ
- Purpose — Introduces strategic indifference. Interrupts broadcasts that do not deserve a story.
- Behaviors — Sits on the architecture. Knocks theories off the table. Stares into corners.
- Known Failures — None admitted. Several unexplained absences.
- Interactions with Other Organs — Vetoes Administration. Confuses Interpretation. Is catalogued, reluctantly, by the Bureau.
